The 'Inside Lieder' Salon: 20 March 2010
Birkbeck is putting on an exciting and varied event about Lieder, hosted by German singer Norbert Meyn at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Knightsbridge. It will include discussions, interviews and film, and will conclude with live performances by well known artists.
Norbert’s guests will include the American pianist Eugene Asti, regular recital partner of artists such as Sarah Connolly and Sir Whillard White, and Richard Stokes, Visiting Professor of Lieder at the Royal Academy of Music and co-author of the popular Book of Lieder.
There will also be film footage of eighteenth-century German Singspiel being performed in a historical Viennese theatre.
The event will finish with a Schubertiade, including well known and lesser known songs by the great Austrian composer. The renowned clarinettist Jane Booth will also play some nineteenth-century arrangements of Schubert songs for clarinet and piano,
We invite you to join us in exploring the nature of this art form, with performers and specialists, in the relaxed informal atmosphere of the nineteenth-century Salon. Light refreshments will be served.
