poet’s death

quite a way after the Chinese of Chia Tao (788-843 AD)

your body is not (impermanence)

your work is (language)

horizon lines superimposed

‘in’ blossoming trees’ layers : leaves

the hills are (just) (still) the hills

woods’ rivers go down to the sea

subjectivity not ‘in memory’ only

though sun declines under a trembling sky

i.m. Leslie Scalapino

(from North Hills)
