Ashok Kumar is a lecture of International Political Economy at Birkbeck College, University of London. His interests include global value chains, industrial conflict, social movements, and labour bargaining power. In addition, he’s written on wide array of subjects including on identity formation, race, and urban theory. His most recent research looks at the changing relationship between global suppliers, buyers and workers in labour-intensive production. He is currently working on a book that examines the changes between capital (consolidation, upgrading, relocation) and labour (agency, strategy and bargaining power) in global value chains.
