Radiation Protection Sub-Committee
Terms of reference
The Radiation Protection Sub-Committee shall advise the College through the Safety Committee on all matters concerning the radiation protection of all workers (whether or not employed by the College) and members of the public on the College premises. Within these general terms the Sub-Committee is specifically required:
1. To ensure that the requirements of the statutory Ionising Radiations Regulations, Approved Code of Practice and Guidance Notes and all other appropriate statutory requirements are complied with at all times by way of written Local Rules for Radiation Safety;
2. To note all formal reports from the Radiation Protection Adviser and the Appointed Radiation Protection Service and to inform the College of the state of radiation protection arrangements within the College premises;
3. To advise the College on the measures to be taken when specified problems in the management of radiation protection are identified;
4. To receive annual reports from the Radiation Protection Adviser on the state of radiation protection measures within the relevant departments;
5. To inform the College of any changes in working areas or practices involving ionising radiation;
6. To be informed of any proposed new work which would require an application for a new HMIP Registration and/or Authorisation Certificate or a modification to an existing Certificate.
7. To inform the College of any situation where it considers it necessary to "Classify" a radiation worker. (If such a situation were to occur, the Sub-Committee would be required to sanction the provision of special monitoring and medical supervision for the individual).
8. To review annually personnel dosimetry records, environmental monitoring records and radiation incident reports as collated by the Radiation Protection Service.
9. To report to the College Safety Committee after each meeting.
