To make recommendations to the Governors on the appointment of:
The President
The Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Governors
The Co-opted Governors
The membership of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, the Audit Committee, the Remuneration Committee and such other committees as the Governors may from time to time direct
Fellows of the College
Honorary Life Members of the College.
In the case of Co-opted Governors, the Nominations Committee shall annually invite Governors, members of the College and members of the Birkbeck Society to nominate suitable candidates and shall also invite nominations from such external bodies as the Governors may from time to time direct. In making its recommendations the Committee shall have regard to the criteria for membership of the Governing Body adopted by Governors at their meeting in July 2007. The Committee shall not be obliged to accept all such nominations but shall take such steps as it thinks appropriate, including arranging informal meetings between the candidates and the Committee or its Chairman, to ascertain whether the persons nominated are willing and suitable to be appointed to the Governing Body.
In the case of Fellows of the College and Honorary Life Members the Committee shall follow the procedures agreed by Governors in December 2000.
