In 2018, we developed CIMR’s international research, dissemination and impact portfolio. We welcomed new members of academic staff, including Dr Muthu De Silva, Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Grace Bo Peng and Dr Sorin Piperca, and we invited more visiting fellows and alumni to join our network.

A major new development is a collaboration between Birkbeck’s School of Business, Economics and Informatics (BEI) and the Kogod School of Business, American University, Washington DC. This is a multi-layered collaboration involving research and development of new teaching programmes, which will lead to student exchange between the two universities. The initiative is being led by Professor Helen Lawton Smith (Birkbeck) and Professor Tomasz Mroczkowski (Kogod). An early research initiative is a joint project on business accelerators (Tomasz Mroczkowski and David Bartlett, Kogod and Muthu De Silva and Filipe Martins, CIMR).

In the summer of 2019, the Department of Management will introduce a master’s module on Blockchain Technology and its Impact on Innovation, Management and Policy, convened by Professor Klaus Nielsen and with teaching led by Saverio Romeo. This initiative has its origins in conversations between Saverio Romeo and Professor Ayman Omar, Kogod, who is responsible for a master’s module on Blockchain in the Global Economy.
