Returns of the Real: Engagements with Contemporary Film and Theory

Retornos do Real: Cinema e Pensamento Contemporâneos

Co-sponsored by CILAVS and the AHRC, this event -part of the research network `Recoveries of the Real´- attempts to explore and expand recent discussions on a post-mimetic Real in contemporary cinema, in particular in the case of Argentina and Brazil. With keynote lectures by acclaimed film theorists and cultural critics Tom Cohen (SUNY), Ivone Margulies (CUNY), Laura Marks (Simon Fraser University, Vancouver), and Karl Erik Schöllhammer (UFRJ), the event will be broadcast live on the internet at http://tv.ufrj.br/fcc.
