Saturday, 9 October 2010, 5.00pm, Birkbeck Cinema, 43 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PD

This production is an adaptation of the classic Brazilian show Pobre Menina Rica and features twelve songs composed by two of the founders of the Bossa Nova movement, Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes. The show was first staged in 1963 and reflects the contradictions of Brazil at the time, a period that is seen as Brazil’s ‘Golden Years’. It is performed and sung in English, whilst maintaining its Brazilian charm with interferences in Portuguese.

The performance will be preceded by talks.
