In collaboration with DLAFF (Discovery Latin American Film Festival), CILAVS is offering the opportunity to watch a trilogy of films by the Mexican filmmaker Julián Hernández, an iconic figure of Latin American gay cinema:

1) A Thousand Clouds of Peace (Mil nubes de paz cercan el cielo, amor, jamás acabarás de ser amor , 2004). Teddy award in the Berlin Film Festival.  83 minutes

.During five days, Gerardo, a teenage homosexual, roams the streets of Mexico City in search of someone able to reveal the secret hidden between the lines of a goodbye letter left behind by a furtive lover that has transformed his existence after only a couple of encounters. In this journey, he is confronted by people that have forgotten their need to be loved and to love, that are unable to give the affection he so desperately needs to keep alive.

INTERVAL: 15 minutes

2) Broken Sky (El cielo dividido, 2006). 140 minutes.

Gerardo and Jonas find one another because they have searched for one other. From their first glance they discover each other, old accomplices; from there comes a date, another, the hotel, university, intimacy, kisses, skin, the reencounter most of all, the fusion, bed, the shower, bars; the sensation of lingering and permanency against distance, against time, fusions them gradually in a timeless ritual meant to repeat itself to keep the continuity of life’s events.

INTERVAL: 30 minutes

3) Raging Sun, Raging Sky (Rabioso sol, rabioso cielo, 2009). Teddy award in the Berlin Film Festival.  191 minutes.

A stunning ode to the nude male form. Kieri and Ryo, two handsome men have an unquestioning love for each other, expressed through an intense sexual bond. But when Ryo is abducted, Kieri embarks on a journey to reunite with his soul mate under the watchful eye of a female spirit. Without being linked to any circumstance in time or space; Kieri, Tari and Ryo love in the present continuous of an eternity laid down by the very essence of their raison d’être.
