Friday, 7 December 2012, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Pat Brenan Suite, Herbarium)

This workshop will bring together researchers from different disciplines, including art history, history of science, history of empire, collecting, and the history of cross-cultural encounters together with various professionals who care for these collections. The workshop will draw on the multidisciplinary possibilities of Kew’s collections, exploring how the collections can be used and interpreted from different perspectives, besides botany.

This workshop, organized by Sara Albuquerque (RBG, Kew and Birkbeck), Luciana Martins (Birkbeck) and Chris Mills (RBG, Kew), stems originally from the AHRC-funded project ‘Cross-Cultural Histories of Tropical Botany in Latin America’, a collaboration between Birkbeck, University of London and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. For more information about the project visit http://www.kew.org/science-research-data/kew-in-depth/cross-cultural-histories/index.htm
