Sessional lecturers

Every year, a cohort of around 700 specialist lecturers is specifically engaged to deliver the majority of our certificates, diplomas and short courses. These lecturers bring an impressive breadth of expertise and experience as well as a passion for their subject to their teaching, and this leads to a dynamic learning experience.

The minimum requirements for selection are listed below. However, some disciplines will require further qualifications or experience, full details will be given in the job description:

  • relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification
  • experience of teaching adult students
  • experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods

Sessional lecturers are key to our success. To reflect this pay is competitive and we offer a range of development opportunities specifically for sessional staff. Potential teaching contracts are part-time for up to one year’s duration.

Birkbeck is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from all candidates irrespective of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, religious belief and sexual preference.
