The Centre for Applied Economic Geography (CAEG)

The CAEG is dedicated to analysing and understanding the factors that create and perpetuate geographical differences in economic performance within modern knowledge economies in the U.K. and throughout the world. The CAEG is a research centre within Birkbeck's School of Geography and a partner with Geoeconomics.

Research activities

  • The structure and dynamics of the knowledge economy in Britain, focussing on: business services, knowledge and learning in workplaces and organisations and intangible assets;
  • The interplay of globalisation and localisation as forces of economic development and change;
  • Benchmarking economic development in regions, sub-regions and localities;
  • The geo-economics of communities.
