How to apply

Step 1: Pick the course for you

  • The School of Business, Economics and Informatics have a wide range of courses to choose from. The first step is to decide what level you should study at. You can then browse our programmes to find the right one for you. You may also want to come to one our open evenings where you can discuss our programmes with our academics and our support staff.

Step 2: Apply online

  • You can apply for a course from our Online Prospectus. The online prospectus gives you all in depth information about the course so you can get a good understanding of what you will be studying, how long it will take and how much time you will need each week. Each entry in the online prospectus also includes contact details for support staff who can answer any questions you might have. It also outlines the entry criteria which applicants must meet.
  • Each entry in the online prospectus also has an "apply now" link. This will open our online application form where you will need to fill in your contact details.

Step 3: Wait for an offer

  • Applying to study a programme does not mean you automatically get a place. Your application will be reviewed by an academic member of staff. If you meet all the entry criteria, you will probably receive an unconditional offer.
  • If you do not meet all the entry criteria, you may get a conditional offer. Conditional offers mean that you can still study the programme but, before you can, you will need to supply further documentation. If you are able to supply this documentation, the conditional offer will be changed to an unconditional offer.

Step 4: Accept the offer

  • Once you have an unconditional offer, you should accept the offer as soon as possible in order to ensure you get a place. A place on a programme is not guaranteed until you have enrolled! So the sooner you accept the offer, the better.

Step 5: Enrol

  • Once you have accepted your offer, you can enrol. Enrolment will officially make you a Birkbeck student! All enrolments are dealt with by the Registry department of Birkbeck. Once you have accepted your offer, Registry will contact you about enrolment and payment.
  • Once you have completed your enrolment, you will receive your student ID and a username and password which will give you access to Moodle – our online learning environment – and Birkbeck library.

Step 6: Start learning

  • The username and password you receive when you enrol will also give you access to My Birkbeck where you will find your personal timetable – so you know where you need to be and when! You can also use our maps to help you find particular classrooms.
  • If you have any questions about your programme, you can contact your programme director using Moodle. You may also want to read about what to expect in the classroom.
