Entrepreneurship awards offer students up to £20,000 for business plans

Budding student entrepreneurs from Birkbeck can enter the prestigious Santander Entrepreneurship Awards for the first time this year.

Budding student entrepreneurs from Birkbeck can enter the prestigious Santander Entrepreneurship Awards for the first time this year. The prizes for undergraduates range from £1,000 to £5,000 and from £5,000 to £20,000 for postgraduates.

The competition, run by one of the world’s largest banks, recognises the success of student entrepreneurs. The awards offer students the opportunity to secure cash investment alongside valuable press coverage to enable the winners  to progress their ideas and business plans.

Rose Devaney, Business Engagement Manager at Birkbeck’s School of Business, Economics and Informatics, said: “Birkbeck has a flourishing entrepreneurial student community, many of whom participate in the Enterprise Hub. This competition is a terrific opportunity to refine and road test entrepreneurial ideas and the substantial prizes could elevate your business from paper to reality.”

Partnership

In December 2013, Birkbeck signed a three-year partnership with Santander worth £75,000. The funding from the bank will be used for scholarships and travel bursaries.  Birkbeck is one of more than 1,020 universities across the world in the Santander Universities network. The Santander Entrepreneurship Awards are open to students of universities who have a partnership with Santander.

Applications

Undergraduates, postgraduates, and alumni who have graduated since 2012 are eligible.  Applicants can be individuals or groups.

To enter, you must own at least 50% of the business in question and be able to submit a business plan by 7 March 2014.

There will be an internal judging process at Birkbeck and one business plan in each category (undergraduate and postgraduate) will be submitted to Santander. The winners of the competition will be announced in the summer at the Santander Universities reception.

If you would like further information and detailed criteria about your entry, please contact Rose Devaney.
