Foundation Degree

Our foundation degrees will equip you with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding to achieve academic results as well as improve performance and productivity in the work place.  Programmes start at the beginning of January and are studied over 2½ years.  On successful completion, students have the option of progressing to year 3 of a part-time undergraduate degree.  Programmes can be studied in Bloomsbury or at Birkbeck’s Stratford Campus.

Lectures start in the week beginning Monday 6 January 2014.  If you are unable to apply in time to meet this deadline, please sign up to come along to our BEI Foundation Degree Open Evening on Thursday 9 January at 6pm.

  • Information Technology*
    The Foundation Degree in Information Technology aims to develop knowledge and IT technical skills for those working in areas affected by rapidly changing information technology. These skills are essential for successful management or technical careers related to information systems, IT and computing.
  • Web Technologies*
    The Foundation Degree in Web Technologies aims to develop the knowledge, technical and transferable skills needed by those working, or seeking to work in areas related to the Web, new media and the Internet. It covers: web design and development, database design and development, programming, information systems and work-related skills. Options in years two and three and a work-related project give students a chance to specialise in an area of specific interest.
  • Management or Management with Accounting – Bloomsbury \ Management or Management with Accounting – Stratford
    This Foundation Degree offers you a flexible professional development programme in management theory and practice. Choose either a management route or an accounting and management route, depending on your personal interests.  On successful completion, you can progress into Year 3 of our BA Management, BA Accounting and Management, or BSc Business honours degrees.

Certificate of Higher Education

Our Certificate courses allow you to study at your chosen pace.  You can enrol for any single standalone module, or complete 8 modules to gain a Certificate.  Modules start from January onwards and can be studied either at Stratford or Birkbeck.

  • Management
    The Certificate of Higher Education in Management provides an introduction to management suitable for a wide variety of careers, or it can be used as a pathway to further study (such as our BSc Business)
  • Management for Personal Assistants
    This Certificate includes modules from both Birkbeck and the Global PA Network to PAs develop the range of skills needed to manage, build and promote effective working practices and relationships within organisations.
  • Economics
    The Certificate of Higher Education in Economics is designed to give you the tools and techniques necessary for investigating important contemporary economic issues
  • Information Technology
    This programme aims to develop knowledge, technical skills and expertise in areas affected by rapidly changing information, communication and web technologies.   Ideal for those wishing to develop more advanced professional and work-related IT skills.
  • Web Design Technologies
    This specialised programme gives a solid grounding in multimedia and web authoring for those wishing to develop professional multimedia or web authoring skills using Adobe Creative Suite and open source web technologies.

BA/BSc Degrees

Study for your full-time undergraduate degree at Birkbeck in the evening. UCAS applications are now open for programmes in Management, Economics & Mathematics, Computer Science & Information Technology and Organizational Psychology.

Open Evenings

Our Open Evenings are an excellent opportunity to find out more about our courses and meet our staff. Find out about our courses starting in January 2014, and all courses starting in October 2014. All our open evenings run from 4-7.30pm. Doors close for admission at 7.15pm.
