Luisa Staley

Head of Alumni Engagement and Regular Giving, Development and Alumni

Luisa oversees alumni involvement for Mentoring Pathways and co-ordinates closely with Rose on logistics and training. Luisa works across the five Schools to match student mentees with alumni mentors and facilitates these relationships throughout the programme’s duration. This programme is a favourite of Luisa’s as she enjoys seeing the transformative impact that it has on students and alumni alike.

Rose Devaney

Business Engagement and Impact Manager, School of Business, Economics and Informatics

Rose co-ordinates the programme alongside Luisa and in particular, manages the training sessions and supports the mentees in the School of Business, Economics and Informatics. Rose’s role as Business Engagement Manager gives her the opportunity to work with new and potential corporate partners who wish to become involved in the programme.

Radhika Karkhanis

Business Engagement Assistant, School of Business, Economics and Informatics

Radhika manages the administration of the mentoring initiative at Birkbeck and has been involved with it since the start of the programme. It has expanded from 25 to 150 mentors for an equal number of mentees, within a span of three years. Please email Radhika if you have any administrative queries about mentoring.

Eddie Bruce-Jones

Senior Lecturer, School of Law

Eddie initiated the mentoring programme at the School of Law for the LLB and the LLM QLD. The BSc in Criminology is soon to follow. Law students have been paired with law alumni and a range of other professionals in and around London. Eddie is Senior Lecturer in Law and Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Retention. His work focuses on human rights, legal theory, migration, European Law, race and anthropology.

 

Simone Wesner

Lecturer in Arts Management, School of Arts

Simone initiated the mentoring programme for the MA in Arts Policy and Management at the School of Arts, connecting former and current MA students through the 6 month career exchange and development scheme. She is a Lecturer in Arts Management and Programme Director of the MA. Her research focuses on artists’ career trajectories, the professionalisation of artists and associated cultural policies.

Hugh Kilmister

Assistant School Manager, School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy

Hugh manages the recruitment and retention of students in the School of Social Sciences, History & Philosophy. Last year, he managed the set-up of a mentoring project in the School working with mentors and mentees. Previously Hugh has been involved in mentoring projects at University College London and City University, London.

Alumni and Student Ambassador Officer, Alumni and Development

As part of Birkbeck’s Development and Alumni Team, Luisa and Andy work collaboratively with all of Birkbeck’s five Schools to match successful student applicants with alumni volunteers and corporate mentors.  They also provide alumni with support and guidance throughout the duration of the Mentoring Pathways programme.
