The School of Business, Economics and Informatics is pleased to have hosted Business Week 2014. Continuing from the huge success of previous years, this year the focus was on the Business and Politics of Mega Sport Events. Please see below for the full schedule of events that took place.

Monday 23 June 2014, 6.00-7.30pm

The Andrew Booth Memorial Lecture

Richard Ayers: The impact of digital technology and social media on sport, followed by a panel discussion

This year's Andrew Booth Memorial Lecture was given by Richard Ayers. He discussed "The impact of digital technology and social media on sport". This was followed by a panel discussion.

A member of the audience said "This talk is typical of Birkbeck's style: thought provoking and engaging. I am looking forward to the rest of Business Week."

After the lecture, the audience were able to network whilst enjoying some Brazilian flair with the Bossa Nova Ensemble Little Boat and cocktails.

Adrian Moorhouse MBE: What can business learn from sport

Adrian Moorhouse gave an inspiring talk about “What business can learn from sport”.

Professor Patrick Tissington, the Head of Department of Organizational Psychology, invited the audience to the reception in which attendees enjoyed more music and cocktails.

The Ronald Tress Memorial Lecture

Neale Coleman CBE: Economic regeneration and the impact of major sporting events, followed by a panel discussion.

In today's key note lecture, Neale Coleman addressed a full lecture theatre.

One-day Conference - Managing Major Sporting Events: Governance and Legacy

The one-day conference included talks and panel discussions by influential speakers:

Lecture 1: 10.00-11.00am
David Goldblatt: The social-cultural context of Brazil and a discussion of sport's place in the country.

Lecture 2: 11.15am-1.00pm
Jens Sejer Andersen and panel: Good governance in sport: a real event.

Lecture 3: 2.00-3.15pm
Professor Jean-Loup Chappelet and panel: The reform of sport governing bodies.

Lecture 4: 3.30-5.00pm
Debbie Jevans CBE and panel: How cities use major sporting events and build a lasting legacy.

Lecture 5: 6.30-7.15pm
This was followed by a reception to round off a successful Business Week.
