Research and development: the i-Bats app

Consultant: Dr George Roussos, Department of Computing Science and Information Systems

The Indicator Bats Program - iBats - is a partnership between The Zoological Society of London and The Bat Conservation Trust, working in partnership with a number of national NGOs. Together, they run a number of national and international bat biodiversity monitoring projects to track changes in global biodiversity.

The Zoological Society of London contracted Dr George Roussos to develop an application for bat monitoring, to be used by the iBats Program with a single device (the iPhone) attached to the bat detector. The new application enables the user to record audio from the bat detector and associated location and temperature information, store it on removable media, and transmit it to the project website for further processing.
