About us

Part of the School of Arts, the Birkbeck Languages Unit (BLU) has a long tradition of teaching French, German, Japanese and Spanish from beginner's to advanced levels. We are specialist providers of evening language classes. We also offer accredited courses and bespoke language training for companies and organisations during the day.

Portuguese, the most recent addition to our languages portfolio, is also getting increasingly popular.

Our students come from a range of ethnic, linguistic and occupational backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of London’s population.

We work with the Outreach and Widening Participation department at Birkbeck and the Capital L Routes into Languages project so as to encourage more students to learn a foreign language.
