Migrant City: The seminar will address the experiences of  young migrants and what they can tell us about Britain today. Discussing the book Migrant City, the session will look at the story of contemporary London from the perspective of thirty adult migrants and two sociologists. It will be connecting migrants' private struggles to the public issues at stake in the way mobility is regulated, channelled and managed in a globalised world, exploring what migration means in a hyper connected world – with its increasingly mobile, invasive and sophisticated forms of border regulation and control. Using extracts from the book the talk will reflect upon this particular experiment in collaborative ethnography with migrants from a wide variety of social backgrounds, spanning many years and utilising a variety of sources – verbal, visual and poetic, to highlight a wide range of issues in London life today.
