A forum for innovative interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange in gender and sexuality studies

Birkbeck is proud to be home to some of the world’s leading scholars in the field of Gender and Sexuality, and BiGS has, since its founding in 2008, showcased their innovative research.  Prominent intellectuals from the fields of Law, Arts and Humanities, and Social Sciences, History and Philosophy all contribute to the vibrant calendar of workshops, seminars, and performances which BiGS hosts every year.

Highlights in recent years have included the symposium ‘Bowie at Birkbeck’, the International Conference ‘Feminist Emergency’, and workshops on Gendering Austerity.  We encourage dialogue with practitioners , policy makers, activists and artists and welcome suggestions for collaborations from colleagues from across Birkbeck's departments and schools. Those with proposals should contact the Director, Kate Maclean.
