Taking part: Adult learning for active citizenship
Professor John Annette, Pro Vice Master, Lifelong Learning and Engagement, Birkbeck University of London and
Professor Marjory Mayo, Professor of Education, Department of Professional and Community Education, Goldsmiths University of London
John Annette and Marjorie Mayo will be discussing work related to a project which was funded by the ‘Department for Communities and Local Government’ which was called ‘ALAC- Adult Learning for Active Citizenship’ and which resulted in the book ‘Taking Part? Active Learning for Citizenship, and beyond’ (NIACE, 2010).
In this presentation Marj Mayo will consider the outcomes of the ALAC project for adult learning for democratic citizenship and civil society action.
John Annette will then consider the implications for lifelong earning for democratic citizenship under the coalition government and the ‘Big Society’.
