Aims 

The aims of the Institute are to:

  • Develop and sustain theoretical and empirical research into education and lifelong learning across the College as well as nationally and internationally
  • Provide a research base for academics, researchers, policy makers and practitioners working in education and lifelong learning
  • Foster and promote a climate of collaboration among academics and researchers involved in educational research at Birkbeck and beyond
  • Promote and foster new ideas and research excellence within the sphere of the Institute's interests and activities
  • Develop collaborative research work with individuals, research centres and other institutions
  • Publish and disseminate results of research activities to academics and policy makers
  • Provide programmes of seminars, colloquia and conferences to develop scholarly exchange.
  • Provide a base for scholars of educational research interested in visiting Birkbeck
  • Foster and develop postgraduate programmes in education and lifelong learning.
