BA Spanish and Latin American Studies

'I think learning is always a positive thing and contributes positively to what you do as a profession. Although my work is unrelated to my studies the skills and knowledge that I have acquired have helped me think critically, improve my writing skills and my ability to convey messages concisely. Reconciling a full-time, demanding job with my studies can be challenging so I've become organised, disciplined and committed and these skills are valuable and transferable to your work environment as well.

I think that learning a language is essential to remain competitive in London's job market. Knowing a foreign language is an asset and an advantage in this very ethnically mixed and diverse city. But learning a language is so much more than just learning to speak, read and write. You also learn about the countries where the language is spoken, its culture, history and its people. This helps you understand and relate much better to the people around and break barriers that would have seemed impossible before. In this sense learning a language helps you see things differently - in a more open minded way - and this definitely has a positive impact on your job and career.'
