Situating Contemporary Indian art in the Global – Art Collectives and the Post postcolonial Discourse.

My research project explores the trans locality and transnationality of contemporary visual arts in India, it's position in the Global and it’s move away from the post-colonial discourse in modern Indian Art. Focusing on the independent artists’ collectives and their role in situating Indian art within the Global, it examines the critical role of the two artists collective Sahmat and Khoj and their impact on contemporary Indian art practice. By studying the area of intersection between post-colonial thought, artists’ collectives and contemporary Indian art, this project aims to develop a new understanding of the emerging contemporary art history of the Indian Subcontinent.
