Philosophy, Theology and Cosmology in the ceiling paintings of Andrea Pozzo.

This research project explores to what extent the ceiling paintings of Andrea Pozzo S.J., with their iconological inspiration from Jesuit published imagery, show the influence of the seventeenth century's scientific and philosophical revolutions. It develops the concept of the Jesuit ‘eye’, based on the ars analogica - a way of viewing creation as a speculum or mirror which reflects God’s nature – to show how the Jesuits assimilated these revolutions.
