The Obliteration of Tradition.

This dissertation stages the friendship between Walter Benjamin and Ernst Bloch upon the historical terrain of their encounters, from exile in Switzerland during the First World War to Berlin shortly before Hitler’s seizure of power. In doing so my thesis acts as a reflection on historical generation, war, revolution, damage, violence, memory, fascism and intoxication.
