Resisting Amnesia: The April Photo Society and the challenge of independent photography in post-1976 China.

Mass demonstrations at the end of the Cultural Revolution in April 1976 signalled the emergence of the first ever independent photography in communist China. This research examines the nature and impact of that resistance to official media control and artistic expression in the post-Mao era.
