The London Rubber Company, the Condom and the Pill: 1932-1965.

For the bulk of the 20th Century, London Rubber was the dominant producer of dipped latex products in Britain, which included disposable Durex brand condoms. Incorporating extensive original archival research with recourse to the contraceptive business, this project uses evidence of corporate strategy and marketing activity as a lens for understanding the cultural barriers to selling condoms in the commercial private sector over four pivotal decades in modern British history.
