Collecting and displaying contemporary Middle Eastern Art and Design at the V&A: a comparative analysis of museum practices

Partner: V&A
Project title: Collecting and displaying contemporary Middle Eastern Art and Design at the V&A: a comparative analysis of museum practices
Student: Carlo Rizzo
Supervisors: Dr Gabriel Koureas and Dr Mariam Rosser-Owen (V&A)

The project will focus on how organisational structure and strategic choices have influenced the V&A’s Middle Eastern collecting, exhibition and programming strategies in the last 15 years. Through the framework of post-colonial and museological theory, the project will analyse how these strategies relate to the Museum’s identity, history and future directions. It will compare the V&A framework with other UK institutions, and offer recommendations to inform future practice.
