Francesco Casetti in conversation with Laura Mulvey

Afterall and the Birkbeck Institute of the Moving Image are pleased to present the inaugural event of The City and its Moving Images: a new, collaborative, research project and series of talks exploring the impact of the moving image on the cultural life of the modern city.

Francesco Casetti will join Laura Mulvey in conversation about forms of spectatorship as shaped by new technological developments, including Casetti’s concept of the relocated cinema, the distinction between attendance and performance, and Mulvey’s notion of the possessive or pensive spectator.

When? Tuesday 30th April 2013, 6.00 - 7.30
Where? Birkbeck Cinema, 43 Gordon Square, London WC1 H0PD
Booking: Please RSVP to Sarah Joshi at sarah.joshi@bbk.ac.uk. Attendance at this event is by invitation only and, as the Birkbeck Cinema is small, we will have to take acceptances on a ‘first come’ basis.

Reception with drinks and nibbles to be held from 8.00-9.00 in the Peltz Gallery, next to the cinema

This event is a collaboration between Birkbeck Institute of the Moving Image and Afterall with the support of Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, University of the Arts London, and Yale University.
