Honorary Doctorate for Professor William Rowe

Professor William Rowe, Anniversary Professor of Poetics in the Department of Iberian and Latin American Studies, member of the Department of English and Humanities and co-Director of the Contemporary Poetics Research Centre, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Catholic University of Peru, in recognition of his contribution to the study and understanding of Peruvian literature and culture.

Professor Rowe is a distinguished researcher of twentieth-century Latin American culture and literature and much of his work has focused on the twentieth-century Peruvian writing of José María Arguedas and César Vallejo. He has been instrumental in advancing the study of these authors in the English-speaking academic world.

In a ceremony at the Catholic University in Lima, on 3 April 2012, Professor Rowe was presented with his honorary degree by Dr Miguel Giusti Hundskopf, Head of the Humanities Department, Dr Efraín Gonzales de Olarte, Academic Vice-Rector of the university, and Francesca Denegri, Associate Lecturer of the Humanities Department, who all paid tribute to Professor Rowe’s contribution to the study of Latin American literature and culture.
