Biographical details

Dorigen Caldwell was appointed Lecturer in Italian Renaissance Art in 2005.

Her PhD, which she received from the Warburg Institute in 1998, focused on the theory of symbolic images in sixteenth-century Italy. She was then awarded a Leverhulme Study Abroad Studentship to pursue post-doctoral research in Rome, on the use of symbolic images in artistic contexts, and became particularly interested in the Counter-Reformation period.

She has taught on Italian Renaissance and Baroque art at two American Universities in Rome, and at University College London and was previously an Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck. Her book on The Sixteenth-Century Italian Impresa in Theory and Practice was published in 2004.
