Nadia Ismail (25) gained more than just her qualification from Birkbeck:
'The course has opened my eyes to so many things. I used to just read a newspaper, or watch a film, but now I question how it was done, what they are trying to achieve: I no longer take things for granted.'After missing out on higher education, Nadia felt Birkbeck was her best option: 'Birkbeck really breaks things down, in terms of the cost and the time. It was the only way I could work and study at the same time.'
Nadia, who works in internal communications, was able to apply directly what she was learning. 'The course had a very real-world application. I learnt about PR and marketing, which gave me a clear overview of how my role fits into the bigger picture.'
She has moved on from her foundation degree and is now in the final year of her BA, but she's not stopping there. 'I am writing a book, which I would like to go abroad to finish. I would also like to do more marketing and eventually set up a company on my own. My experience at Birkbeck has made me realise that I never want to stop learning.'
