For Judy Morgan (42), a project administrator, Birkbeck meant she could finally achieve her university ambitions.
'Due to family commitments, studying at university was just not an option. However, 24 years later, it was my eldest son who encouraged and persuaded me to go to university!'I chose Birkbeck because, for me, it offered a great learning experience. I didn't want to feel like I was returning to school I wanted to be treated like an adult.
'I am more focused and disciplined since studying with Birkbeck. You have to prioritise your schedule, your home-life, work and study. Birkbeck teaches you a different type of discipline – which is good.
'However, I couldn't afford to study without some financial assistance. I received a leaflet about the Birkbeck Student Opportunity Fund, which is aimed at helping students just like me with fees and other expenses such as travel and books. I applied and, fortunately for me, I was successful. I would not have been able to do my degree without it.'
