Etsegenet enrolled on a degree shortly after leaving school, but found it wasn't right for her. But 10 years later, when she decided to become a solicitor, she came to Birkbeck because she needed the flexibility it offered:
'Not only am I a mother, but I was working full-time when I started, so Birkbeck was perfect for me. I found that the Law staff were really supportive, especially when my finals were due the same week as my second child! In fact, I went into labour in my last EU law exam and, had it not been for the staff in the Law School, I would not have been able to sit my exam, let alone graduate with a 2:1 this year.'
She now knows exactly what she wants to do:
'I'm going to be a family law solicitor. Not only has my experience at Birkbeck made me more confident, but it has added another dimension both to me and my family.'
