BSc Biological Sciences
David, from Spain, had always been enthusiastic about science. So when he decided to improve his English, rather than study at an English-language school, he chose to enrol at Birkbeck for a BSc in Biological Sciences.
'I already had a chemistry degree, so I knew what I was getting into. But I couldn't afford to study full-time. Birkbeck was the only university I knew that enabled me to study while working, and getting a University of London degree at the same time is cool.'
Currently working as a lab technician and practical instructor, his degree also means that David is able to move on to the next stage of his career:
'Getting this degree was an awesome experience. It means I can get qualified teacher status, and I'm now studying for a PGCE. Learning something you are interested in while working to keep yourself is very rewarding, and I may even attempt a PhD in Microbiology at some time in the future.'
