Donors and students meet at Scholars' Evening
In recognition of the vital support Birkbeck’s alumni have provided in the past year, the Master hosted the fourth annual Scholars’ Evening on 5 July 2011. Now an established favourite in the College calendar, this year the thirtieth floor of the London headquarters of Clifford Chance again provided an excellent venue to thank donors and volunteers for their continued support.
The event enabled current students who have received financial support from alumni to thank donors for their generosity and discuss the changes that have taken place at Birkbeck. Many of the bursary recipients in attendance had just completed their final year of study and were able to talk about their plans for the future. Others had just finished their first exams and were exhilarated to have completed their first year. One such student, Dawn Joseph, addressed guests during the evening, explaining the impact that the bursary she received has had.
During the evening a speech was also made by the Master, Professor David Latchman, who provided an update on Birkbeck. Sarah Weir, an alumna and donor also explained the impact that Birkbeck has had on her life, why she supports the Alumni Fund, the importance of volunteering, donating and remembering the College in her will.
Video clips of the speeches and photographs from the event can be found here.
