Development and Alumni Team success in 2009

The Development and Alumni Team had its most successful year to date, thanks to all of your support

This year alumni have responded with incredible generosity when asked to support Birkbeck through the Alumni Fund. We have received 2,871 gifts from alumni which brought the total raised to £105,000. Thanks to your generosity Birkbeck is able to make an immediate and lasting impact on the lives of today’s students.

Your support has also been instrumental in helping Development and Alumni team raise sufficient funds this year to ensure Birkbeck receives the maximum available funding under the Matched Funding scheme, where the government gives 50p for every £1 that is donated to Birkbeck. Over the three years of the scheme this will represent over £1 million of additional funding to the College.

Equally, more alumni then ever have volunteered their time to help us maintain our reputation as the leading provider of part-time evening higher education. They attended events, gave inspiring advice to potential and new Birkbeck students, led library and campus tours, spoke about their experiences at Birkbeck and offered advice on issues such as study skills, time management and exams. Thanks to their remarkable enthusiasm, commitment and hard work Birkbeck has had one of the most successful recruitment years so far, attracting a record number of new students.

We have also worked on ensuring the benefits and special offers available are relevant and of interest to you. One of the most popular was the newly negotiated reduction of library membership fees and the free membership to the London International Development Centre.

We have a big year ahead of us and we hope you will continue to support us, follow us and demand the best out of us.
