Alumni Fund welcomes the New Year

With the New Year ahead we felt it was a good time to reflect on Alumni Fund activities and successes that have so far marked this academic year.

The summer term started with the exciting launch of the Government’s Matched Funding scheme that gave Birkbeck the opportunity to substantially increase its philanthropic income. With 50% of each donation matched by the Government, we knew this was a unique opportunity for donors at all levels to make a real impact.

Your response to this initiative has been remarkable and in the first five months you have donated an impressive £45,000 with as many as 125 of you donating for the very first time. This figure will go up to £65,000 with matched funding.

The money raised will, once again, be distributed to many talented students who are looking for full or additional financial support in order to start and/or continue their studies. Over the years, the Alumni Fund has on average helped 300 students per year and with such enthusiastic support from you we hope to be able to do even more next year.

Currently, we are in the planning stages for the annual telephone campaign that is due to start in Spring. We hope to speak with many of you, to hear what you think of Birkbeck’s efforts and to find out where you would like to see us go next.  Thank you for all your help so far!
