Partnerships with international academic institutions

We are proud to have a number of strategically important partnerships with some of the world’s leading universities.

All of our international partnerships have been designed to allow the free exchange of ideas and to promote training for academic staff, whilst progression agreements have been articulated to allow overseas students to combine their studies with a degree at Birkbeck.

Brazil: Itaú BBA International

  • Our partnership with Itaú BBA International means we are able to provide two student scholarships, for students from Brazil, who will be studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level at Birkbeck during the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the academic promise of their application and need.
  • The Brazilian scholarships, supported by Itaú, will provide vital support for gifted and highly motivated Brazilian students who otherwise would not be able to take advantage of the life-changing opportunities which Birkbeck can provide.

Brazil: University of Sao Paolo

  • Since 2010, the Department of Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck has had a formal link with the Department of Social Psychology and the Psychology Institute at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. The partnership includes staff and student exchanges.

  • Three PhD students from DUFE GIME will also be selected to study at Birkbeck. They will have the option to study in a mixed-mode model, completing the first year of study in London and the remainder of the programme in China.
  • In addition, staff at Birkbeck and DUFE will engage in collaborative research. And the agreement will also provide opportunities for staff to travel as visiting lecturers between the two institutions.

China: South Western University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE)

It uses SIB’s Executive Development Programme (EDP) Centre as the platform to provide top-level training course in Western China, and the collaborative initiative allows for the delivery of Master's/MPhil programmes to students from SWUFE-SIB and staff exchanges.
  • The partnership offers a range of benefits to students and staff at both universities, including:
    • a visiting staff programme
    • a dual degree, where up to 15 selected students from SWUFE will come to London to study at Birkbeck-SBEI for the second year of their SWUFE-SIB Master's Degree (during which time they will complete one of the Master's Degree programmes in the Department of Management)
    • an undergraduate progression has been established, and up to 15 selected undergraduates who have completed the SWUFE-SIB Bachelor’s degree and who meet Birkbeck’s entry criteria will be invited to progress onto one of Birkbeck-SBEI taught postgraduate programmes in London
