Phyllis Somers

Birkbeck is pleased to honour Mrs Phyllis Somers with a Fellowship, in recognition of her philanthropic support of Birkbeck’s new Biomedical Chemistry Laboratory in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences. This laboratory will provide a centre for the study of anti-cancer drugs and the development of new treatments of infectious and parasitic diseases.

The Master, Professor David Latchman says: ‘I first met Mrs Somers when I was Dean of the Institute of Child Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital, of which she is a generous supporter. Following my move to Birkbeck, I was delighted that she was as understanding of our unique mission and I’m most grateful for her support.’
